COOK TOGETHER. STAY SENSIBLE.
Safety & food information.
Pea is designed for adults and younger cooks to use together. It is not intended for unsupervised use by children.
The adult stays responsible
The supervising adult decides which jobs, tools, ingredients and heat sources are appropriate for the younger cook they are with. Capability, familiarity, behaviour, environment and supervision matter; age alone does not determine readiness.
Knives, heat and other hazards
Where a Mission involves knives, heat, raw meat or another significant hazard, Pea aims to identify adult-controlled or closely supervised parts clearly. Lower-risk routes do not replace adult supervision or judgement. Never use an unstable chair or improvised stack to bring a younger cook up to working height.
Food safety
Follow current food-safety guidance, storage instructions, use-by dates, safe cooking temperatures and equipment manufacturers’ instructions. Keep raw and ready-to-eat foods appropriately separated, wash hands when needed and keep work areas clean.
Allergies
Ingredient suggestions and substitutions are cooking guidance, not individual allergy advice. Always check labels, ingredients, allergen statements and cross-contamination information for the needs of your household. Pea cannot guarantee that a recipe, substitution or third-party product is allergen-free.
Messy is fine. Dirty isn’t the same thing.
Cooking with younger cooks can be gloriously untidy. Food hygiene still matters. Waiting time is useful reset time: clear spills, wash equipment, separate raw-food tools and make the next stage safe to work in.
If something feels beyond them
Change the job. Observe instead of handle, use an easier ingredient, take over the hot or sharp bit, or skip it. Pea’s progression is about growing confidence, not racing towards grown-up equipment.
