FROM ED’S KITCHEN

I knew how to cook.
I didn’t know how to let her in.

Pea started with a very ordinary bit of parenting. My daughter wanted me; I was making dinner; and I sent her off to do something else. I had kitchen skills. What I didn’t have was a way to turn them into something playful, useful and genuinely hers.

So I started translating.

Not “give the child a wooden spoon”. Real jobs inside real dinner: cutting herbs with scissors, tasting for acidity, feeling dough change, learning what heat does, gradually taking responsibility.

Then I realised the adult shouldn’t stand still either. Pea could be a place where both people get better — and where the thing that might once have pushed us apart becomes some of the time that brings us together.

That became something I thought other families might find useful. So I’m building it openly: researching, testing, listening, changing it and adding to it. If you join early, you’re joining a programme designed to grow with you — and a beginning I intend to keep earning your trust in.

BUILD NOTE · 01

The adult progression wasn’t ambitious enough.

I’d made the younger-cook journey increasingly capable, but the adult was basically being rewarded with more sophisticated tomato sauce. That isn’t the proposition.

So the route now climbs towards fresh pasta, bread, fermentation, emulsions, precision frying, multi-component dishes and genuinely challenging technique.

CHANGE: adult ambition is now a product requirement.
BUILD NOTE · 02

The child’s job has to belong to the dish.

A generic “chop some banana” image looked perfectly wholesome and was completely wrong. If dinner is pasta, the child should be cutting the herbs, tasting the sauce, handling dough — contributing to dinner itself.

CHANGE: no token tasks just to manufacture involvement.

Early members shouldn’t get the worst Pea.

The point of joining early is not to tolerate a thin product. It is to have something useful now and see it improve around you — with a chance to influence those improvements.

PROMISE: active membership includes the programme as it evolves.

YOU SAID IT. I CHANGED IT.

This section should eventually be full of other people’s fingerprints.

When member feedback produces a real change, I want to record it here. Not because every suggestion wins, but because “we listen” should be demonstrable rather than decorative copy.
